SBT needs volunteers in all of its present projects and for future projects not listed here. Volunteers from outside the country would need to provide their own transportation to Bocas and provide for their food and lodging here. SBT would assist them in locating or by providing lodging, depending on the project. It's easier for people already living in Bocas to just contact us and we will inform you how you can be a part of the solution.
Do you have to have special skills to volunteer? Are you motivated is the answer. Volunteers with special skills and related experience are of course needed, but if you can lift a shovel or click a mouse, we need you. We have projects, in existence and on paper, related to nutrition, health, medicinal plants, construction, tourism, education, cultural anthropology, group dynamics, agriculture, environmental conservation, alternative energy sources, aqua culture, and much more.
Remote Partners - What if I can't volunteer to come there, but I want to be a part of a something that really makes a difference? Our remote partners are as important to what we can accomplish here, as the volunteers are. We have some members located outside of the country that we primarily contact thru email and they keep abreast of the related projects thru our website's new blog. They lend us some of their time (perhaps only an hour or two per week) to conduct internet research for us.
Doesn't sound impressive! We have a backlog of questions we need to answer and which can directly through doing nothing, affect peoples lives and/or the environment here. SBT does not have the staff to provide the man hours necessary to conduct internet research on the broad range of issues we face. So by donating a little time, you can become a part of the bigger picture.
We also hope soon to establish a network of college students, beginning with Florida and with Texas State University. They will be sent several questions related to their study area for internet research. The remote members would analyze their findings and submit to SBT their top three solutions. These solutions would be analyzed here and implemented if feasible.
Are classes and Professors welcome to come to Bocas and participate at some level? Yes, please contact us and let's talk.
